Evening of Sunday, November 18

I don't even know where to begin. Today was supposed to be uneventful, but wow, I was wrong. We had another terrific breakfast and headed to the airport. Three other families had already left. The last three families (which includes us) got on our separate flights and headed out. The photos above are from the plane window. We arrived in Shenyang at about 2:50pm and it was COLD, COLD. Even in the airport all the staff had their coats, scarves, and gloves on! Shenyang is a very industrial urban area, so its very different from Beijing already.

We waited until 4pm, but no one had shown up to get us. We called Charlotte, our wonderful guide from Beijing. She told us to go ahead and get taxis to take us to our hotel. She spoke to them as we loaded our luggage into their cars to explain where we needed to go. We held our breaths as they raced us through traffic - Ken and Alex in one car, Bryant and I in the other. Talk about some serious praying! For all we knew, our lives were over - I had flashes of being on the news or worse. We had no idea who these guys were or what their intentions were - but, we made it safe and sound. The hotel is BEAUTIFUL. It seems to be located right in the thick of the city with all kinds of glamorous shops everywhere.

Our local guide called us a little while ago. He was under the impression that we were not going to arrive until 7pm, so was shocked that we were already at the hotel. He also didn't seem to realize that there were four of us here. He will come at 9:30am tomorrow to take us to get ElleAnna. Let's hope that all goes smoothly from here on out and the "bad luck" was only an isolated incident on an otherwise incredibly wonderful journey.

We'll put some laundry together tonight, find something to munch on for supper since I doubt we'll be venturing out, and get to bed. Its been a LONG DAY and we'll need our rest for tomorrow! We appreciate your prayers, keep them coming!
